The memories will be...

Our Thanksgiving began early in the morning with our traditional participation in the Giving Thanks 5k at Como Lake, just minutes from our house. It was a little colder than I expected this year, but still a blast and a great way to give to our local food shelf. We met up with some friends and family members at the race even though we were chilly, and short on extra layers, there was no shortage of good conversation as we made our way around the lake.
This was the first year that Weston (my 5 year old) was an official participant. He ran and walked right along side Daddy. He did so great!

After the race, we had a nice breakfast and an even nicer nap and then headed over to the Oval (our big local outdoor ice rink). Uncle Dan met us there to help with equipment.

Nana (my mother) came to skate. She even got knocked over! Wes came running into the warming house (I was still getting my skates on) and he said her face looked "cry-ee" but, she's a tough Nana and she just kept on skating.... once she was able to get up.

It was Liam's first time on skates. He's 18 months!! (I had no idea they made skates that small.) He loved it!! (Daddy's back, however,..... did not).

Weston is a seasoned skater and he had lots of tips for Liam. Including "try not to crash into Nana", and ......"remember to wear your mittens."

We had a few, faithful spectators, Uncle Tom, Papa and Uncle Dan (not pictured here/see above).

After skating, it was over to Nana and Papa's for a traditional Thanksgiving Feast (Yes! Mashed potatoes), and of course a failed attempt at the elusive Family Christmas portrait.

Even though the photos are not perfect.... the memories will be.

What great photos and memories! Wow, it looks cold! I can't imagine - it was 75 degrees here in Florida today. Kind of takes the fun out of listening to holiday tunes like "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow..." :-)

what an incredibly active and fun holiday! I am glad your memories of that day will be so great and lasting! I now want to go ice skating. I'm not sure I can talk my hubby into it, though.

What an eventful day! I went skating this past weekend, with a few friends, and was wondering if my son was still too young to go skating. He's 21 months...so we might give it a try soon!

My hubby and brother did a 5K run too...but I stayed in the warmth of my parents' home. ;) Looks like you all had a fun time skating - I just LOVE that your 18 month old joined in too. How cute!

I love that this 5k was a 'family team' effort. ;) This is such a great example for your boys. Lil' bitty ice skates = priceless.
