Poor Becca, My Stylist

I am a pretty private person (Well, I was before I started spilling my guts on this blog, anyway). I usually don't go around telling people about when my husband got laid off, that my son won't wipe his own butt or that sometimes the laundry pile in the basement gets so big its seriously a fire hazard. I'm actually a quiet person; a self-conscious, nerdy, quiet mouse.

Something happens to me when I sit down in the chair at the hair salon (and apparently the same phenomenon happens here in my kitchen when I sit to write my blogs). My poor stylist Becca, I only see her about once every six weeks. So, it all builds up and as soon as I sit down and hand her my purse, my mouth opens the flood gates and it all comes gushing out! It's like an infected blister that gets popped, poor Becca. I wonder if other people do this to her, too? I've heard bartenders are often like psychologists behind the bar. What about hair stylists? I'm not much of a drinker, so I don't talk to the bar tender enough to confess everything to him, and real psychologists are too expensive (although for what Becca charges, she should have a doctorate degree).

I think maybe I tell it all to Becca, because it doesn't really matter if she doesn't like me. I can always go to another stylist, and they'll cut my hair just fine. Telling my secrets to Becca is a way to test my pusy, disgusting, petrified truth, before putting it out there to the people in my life who could hurt me.

I just made my appointment for two weeks from now, with Becca. I've been saving up some juicy details of my life to share with her, poor Becca. If she doesn't run out screaming, I'll share it all with the rest of you soon.

Maybe I need to start getting my hair cut regularly. I lost a little anonymity about 6-7 weeks ago and I don't feel I can vent openly on my blog all the time now. Hair stylist=cheap therapy. I'll remember that!

Coming from a hair stylist. That is what we enjoy about our jobs. Seriously. I have told people that I charge a 20% gratuity if they don't gab. There is nothing worse than someone who sits in the chair and doesn't say a word.

Plus, I love to hear about other people's drama. IT makes my life seem normal

My stylist is as much of a talker as I am! :)

I love to shoot the shit with my stylist...of course, I am starting over with a new guy...so, it takes me about 2 times to get in that comfort zone.

I think this is a very common thing that occurs with us women. My stylist is a big talker too. I get to hear all about her drama and it's fun. And every once in awhile I get a word in edge wise. :)

Okay, I have to admit that I'm my own stylist. I've had some really bad experiences so I just started doing it on my own (and no my hair doesn't look like Edward Scissorhands cut it-at least I don't think so?). So, I guess I just vent to myself...maybe that's why I'm always talking to myself! :)

I so know what you mean about being quiet and private and then sitting down to blog (or have the ole mop of hair styled) and suddenly pouring everything out. I'm the exact same way.

As lucky would have it I usually get a stylist (I bounce around) who loves to gab and I end up listening to HER life drama. Which is sometimes entertaining and sometimes horrifically dull...

I am a pretty private person (not counting my blog) but occasionally I find myself blabbing out something that I KNOW I shouldnt have said. I hate when I do that.

Now that's funny because I'm super guarded with my stylist. I know they hear everything so I listen to her stories, but keep mine to myself.

My sister's a stylist and she often says they're like bartenders. I guess there's something soothing about putting yourself into their capable hands.

I am very similar. I'm this quiet, nerdy gal and then I sit down and once those foils go in, I'm off and running. On my blog, too. I guess some things are just easier with people you don't really "know," does that make sense?

HaHaHa - too funny! I am the same way but I only see mine like 3 times a year and boy oh boy does she get an earfull everytime.
I think I open up to her because it somehow feels safe to. We don't hang in the same circles so I feel I can vent about friends or family or work without anything "bad" happening to me. It is freeing actually.

My apt is coming up in under 2 weeks too.

No wonder my Mom was a beautician. I should have been one :)

I just need to find someone to cut my hair that I like enough to go back to!

I think poor Becca probably loves your visits and hearing bits and pieces of your compelling story. It's funny because I am the total opposite. I am very tight-lipped around my hairdresser. I think it's because I always hear him gossiping about other clients. I love the idea of blog readers being virtual stylists.

I love chatting with my stylist too. She is great...laughs in all the right places...asks the right questions...lets me do ALL the talking. I'm sure I must exhaust her! Tee hee hee. Holly at Lifelaughlatte.blogspot.com

Ok, than I'm the one that every stylist hates - because if she doesn't talk to me, I don't say much. I guess I'm more of a listener than a talker. I spend the entire time asking the questions.

I bet she loves it (and goes home and tells her husband! HA!) and I'm SURE you are not the only one to spill your guts.

It was the first time I went to my new one here and she shared ALL kinds of things with me! So, it also works both ways...

TOO FUNNY! Our niece does my hair so I have to share w/the girls at the place I get my pedicure, ONCE a year. Can you imagine what I have saved up. ha ha ha!
I used to not like telling people about tragedy like the loss of a job until Joe lost his once year ago 11/3 and because of the power of friends and hearing of it..he had a new one in two weeks! It's all about who you know! Good luck!

I'm one of those people Chief doesn't like. I just want to sit in the quiet and I HATE small talk...so I'm pretty much mute when I get my hair cut. Probably because I have always already spilled my guts on the blog :)

Your hair always looks so good...I may have to check out poor Becca :)

Funny, I've never been a "salon talker". Quick updates on our respective dogs, short discussion on the large size of my head (and how to minimize this size) and then quiet. I like the whirl of salon convo and blow dryers around me. Kind of lulls me into relax mode.
